Ship History
Forty Two was commanded by Lieutenant R. Nimmo, RN, during the Dunkirk evacuation. Derek Bromige, the vessel's owner in 1989, was acquainted with Lieutenant Nimmo's family but subsequently lost contact. Details regarding the ship's specific role in Operation Dynamo remain limited.
The vessel was later moored on the River Severn near Worcester. Originally built by Strood Boatbuilders in Kent for Mr. N. West, who owned her at the time of Dunkirk, Forty Two is a distinguished 46-foot craft. Her original six-cylinder Morris petrol engine was replaced with twin BMC 2.8 diesel engines.
As of April 2018, no additional information about this historic vessel has been documented. Individuals possessing knowledge of Forty Two’s history or current location are encouraged to provide details to the relevant association.
