Ship History
Sub-Lieutenant T.H. Rodgers served as the skipper of Gay Crusader during her mission to Dunkirk. According to Tough's records, her crew comprised B. Kearns, L.R. Missingen, and C.H. Newers.
Following the war, one of the vessel's owners experienced a serious accident that caused significant damage to her starboard bow. Although the damage was temporarily repaired, the vessel was subsequently kept ashore and completely dried out, resulting in the opening of her planks.
The next owner undertook re-caulking of the vessel; however, upon taking her out to sea, she nearly sank. This owner decided to sell the vessel to mitigate further losses. The subsequent owner encountered persistent engine failures, which compromised the vessel's reliability.
Despite this series of challenges and multiple changes in ownership, Gay Crusader was ultimately rescued by the Dunkirk Little Ships Restoration Trust. The Trust has since sold the vessel to a new owner who has nearly completed her restoration and plans to participate in the Dunkirk Reunion in June 2000.
