Ship History
Lijns is a substantial steel-hulled motor yacht constructed and well fitted out by de Vries Lentsch in Holland shortly before World War II. Records indicate that the vessel participated in the evacuation of Dunkirk; however, detailed information regarding her precise activities during that period, as well as her history prior to the war, remains unknown.
Due to her robust construction, Lijns has endured many years of neglect following the war. Several owners have undertaken restoration efforts over time. At one point, the yacht was stored under tarpaulins at Beacon Boat Yard in Borstal on the River Medway. During this period, then-owner Stephen Peel installed two reconditioned BMC Commodore diesel engines and new hydraulic steering gear.
Currently, Lijns is owned by Morris Tolhurst and is securely housed under cover at Beacon Boatyard in Rochester.
